In the mythology of the Vikings, the love goddess, Freya, went out one night, looking for something of great beauty to adorn her already very beautiful self. She found the Sons of Brising, who were extremely good at building objects of wonder. What she bought from them (and they were paid very well, I might add) was Brisingamen, the Brising Necklace, and no more beautiful ornament has ever been made. It is mentioned in several Teutonic myths and legends.
